amagaia
In 2013, Vila Céu do Mapiá carried out AmaGaia, a participatory training and integrated planning process for community sustainability, based on the Education for Ecovillage Design (EDE) curriculum, from Educação Gaia (an international organization formed from the Rede Global of Ecovillages). For four weeks, community members and sustainability specialists got together and shared knowledge and experiences on key aspects in strengthening sustainable communities, according to local experiences and Ecovillage practices.
On the occasion, the community updated its vision of the future, identifying needs and indicating priorities and steps to make it a reality.
As a result of this experience, in 2018 the AmaGaia Program was created to support Community Sustainability, built in a participatory way with the community, technical assistance from the Socio-Environmental Institute of Viçosa and the Federal University of Viçosa, and support from the Nova Era Institute, FHFA (Foundation for the Healing Forces of the Amazon) and others.
Linked with the IDARIS objective and vision of the future, the program articulates integrated actions and projects, which aim to strengthen sustainability and regenerative development in Vila Céu do Mapiá and surrounding communities.
