Vila Céu do Mapiá was born as an innovative proposal for a spiritualist community in the interior of the Amazon Forest, with a high degree of isolation from the nearest urbanized locations, in a territory with sufficient autonomy and independence to define its development model and with little interference from the government. public Power.

The original idea was to remain as a population sheltered from the novelties and influences of urbanized society. To make the residents' survival possible, the main strategy consisted of producing family and community agriculture, extractivism, fishing, hunting and small livestock with a minimum dependence on external products (only those strictly indispensable).

From the 1990s onwards, this initial model, favorable to sustainable development, gradually lost its original strength, directly pressured by the globalization process that was taking place on the planet and that impacted not only our community but also all initiatives that in some way promoted alternative life models to the hegemonic system.
